Oscar Montero is professor of Latin American literature at Lehman College and The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He is the author of The Name Game (Chapel Hill, 1988) on Cuban writer Severo Sarduy, and Erotismo y representación en Julián del Casal (Amsterdam, 1993). Among his publications are “Modernismo and Homophobia: Darío and Rodó,” in Sex and Sexuality in Latin America, (New York University Press), and “The Signifying Queen: Critical Notes from a Latino Queer,” Hispanisms and Homosexualities, (Duke University Press). In 1996 and 1999, Montero was co-chair of Crossing National and Sexual Borders, conferences sponsored by the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies of the City University of New York. He is currently working on a book on José Martí.
