Sherrie Baver received her Ph.D. from Columbia University and has taught Political Science and Latin American Studies at City College for two decades. At City she has served as Director of the International Studies Program and as Chair of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. At present, she serves as Deputy Executive Officer of the Ph.D./M.A. Program in Political Science at the Graduate Center. Her research interests involve political and economic development, immigration, and more recently, environmental concerns. Included in her writings are: The Political Economy of Colonialism: The State and Industrialization n Puerto Rico (Praeger:1993) and Latinos in New York: Communities in Transition (Notre Dame 1996) (co-editor). She is completing a manuscript (co-edited with Barbara D. Lynch), Caribbean Environmental Issues: Beyond Sun and Sand. Professor Baver as received numerous CUNY awards and two Fulbrights to Latin America.
