Susana Reisz obtained her Ph. D. in Classics and Romance Studies at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She has lived and worked in four countries: her native Argentina, Germany, Peru and the United States of America. A member of CUNY’s faculty since 1990, she is currently Professor of Literary Theory and Contemporary Spanish American Literature in the Department of Languages and Literatures at Lehman College and in the Ph.D. in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures at the Graduate Center of The City University of New York, where she serves as Deputy Executive Officer.
Her theoretical and critical work ranges from Greek tragedy and the origins of literary theory to the present debates on the humanities and the latest developments of women’s writing in the Hispanic world. She is the author of many essays on all these topics, as well as the books: Poetische Äquivalenzen. Grundverfahren dichterischer Gestaltung bei Catull (Amsterdam: Grüner, 1977), Teoría literaria. Prof. Reisz has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters in journals and collections from Europe and the Americas, and has contributed to major international projects such as Narrativa latinoamericana de mujeres. In 1996, Susana Reisz won a prestigious award in the area of Linguistics and Literary Theory from the Argentine Konex Foundation, which honors exceptional artists and scientists in ten categories since 1980.

Prof. Reisz is currently working on a research project entitled “Indigencia y creatividad en las letras peruanas: nuevas crisis, nuevos actantes”. Part of this study will be read at the International Conference: “Cultura latinoamericana en tiempos de crisis: La región andina,” which will be hosted by the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies of the University of Bergen (Norway) next May.
As a member of the Local Organizing Committee of the AIH (“Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas”), she is also working intensively in the preparation of the “XIV Conference of the International Association of Hispanists,” which will be hosted by The Graduate Center of CUNY next July.
