34 & 5 Podcast: Colombia, a Wound that Won’t Heal

|

Welcome to 34th & 5th from the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies at the Graduate Center CUNY. In this episode, our staff member Fátima Vélez had a conversation with Sara Tufano, a Colombian feminist sociologist on her book ‘Colombia: A Wound That Won’t Heal.’ She presented it at our center last week. Her book examines two specific peace processes with the M-19 guerrilla group that occurred prior to the peace process with the FARC during the governments of Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018), Belisario Betancur (1982-1986), and Virgilio Barco (1986-1996). Sara argues that it’s necessary to take a closer look at these processes to understand, for instance, the peace process between the FARC and the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the fact that a left-wing individual who was involved with the M-19 is now the President of Colombia.
