“La promesa”, treinta años después: una conversación con Julio Ramos

La promesa es, sin lugar a dudas, una de las obras clave del realizador, ensayista y profesor universitario Julio Ramos. Estrenado en 1995 y concebido desde una perspectiva coral, este filme recoge imágenes y testimonios únicos sobre la tradicional peregrinación popular al santuario de San Lázaro, ocurrida los días 16 y 17 de diciembre de 1993.

Más allá del registro documental, La promesa constituye una profunda indagación sobre el papel de la fe y la esperanza en tiempos de oscuridad. Treinta años después, el filme sigue suscitando preguntas urgentes sobre el dolor, el sacrificio y las formas colectivas de devoción durante una de las mayores crisis en la historia espiritual y política de Cuba.

Tras la proyección, se llevará a cabo una sesión de preguntas y respuestas.

The Promise is, without a doubt, one of the key works of filmmaker, essayist, and university professor Julio Ramos. Premiered in 1995 and conceived from a collective perspective, this film captures unique images and testimonies about the traditional popular pilgrimage to the sanctuary of San Lázaro, held on December 16 and 17, 1993.

Beyond its documentary record, The Promise constitutes a profound inquiry into the role of faith and hope in times of darkness. Thirty years later, the film continues to raise urgent questions about pain, sacrifice, and collective forms of devotion during one of the greatest crises in Cuba’s spiritual and political history.
