“This summer, beginning June 4, 2013 I travelled to Paris, France and to Guadeloupe, French West Indies to conduct preliminary research for the long-term dissertation fieldwork that I will undertake next year. This summer’s research was crucial for the larger thesis project, Embodied & Inscribed—Gwoka : Guadeloupan Social Movement & Immaterial Heritage of France. These two months were essential for establishing the necessary contacts, initiating ongoing and future collaborations, beginning archival research, as well as giving me a much fuller sense of the intellectual, cultural and political terrain within which I will be engaging in the coming year(s).”
