Thanks to the CLACLS funding I received I was able to travel to Honduras over the summer. I plan to conduct my research in the Maya site of Copan, in the western part of the country.Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 I was not able to conduct any fieldwork over the summer. Instead, I have used this time to start creating relationships with the pertinent authorities and will be conducting archival research of other archaeological projects in Copan and in other parts of the country over the next month, as public offices start to open back up. The project remains largely unchanged, but I believe the archival research will give me a better sense of the other players in the archaeology of Copan and specifically in how identity was conceived in Honduras before the arrival of Europeans to the country.
