His research will examine the impact of restrictive immigration legislation at the state level on various measures of mental health for the Latinx community. Specifically, he will examine the impact of Arizona’s SB 1070 and related “copycat” laws in five other states, a set of laws aimed at identifying undocumented immigrants through state and local law enforcement. Moreover, analyses will take into account the potential for differential impacts based on race, nationality, and immigration status. Overall, he hopes for this study to contribute to the literature on mental health in immigrant and Latinx communities as well as to the growing literature on the impacts of restrictive immigration legislation at the state and local level.
